Clinical Advances in Neutralizing the Pandemic: The Multiple Roles for Neutralizing Monoclonal Antibodies in COVID-19
Hundreds of agents and vaccines are under investigation to prevent and treat coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Among them, treatment with neutralizing monoclonal antibodies (nAbs) has shown promise in their ability to neutralize the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus and confer passive immunity. NAbs can be instrumental in preventing progression to severe disease, and they have the potential to provide a prophylaxis option to individuals who have been exposed to SARS-CoV-2, which may be critical until vaccines are widely available. This curriculum provides an overview of the underlying science and emerging evidence on the use of these agents.
