The Delaware Academy of Family Physicians Research and Foundation, Inc. (DAFP-REF) is a 501-c-3 non-profit organization founded in 1989 as the philanthropic arm of the Delaware Academy of Family Physicians (DAFP).

 

Our Mission

  • To promote the specialty of family medicine to medical students and pre-medical students in Delaware;
  • To support activities and research by Delaware Family Medicine Residents and Physicians to improve the health of the communities we serve; and
  • To communicate the importance of Family Medicine to local, state, and federal officials and our community.

The David & Ethel Platt Summer Externship

DandEPlattThe David and Ethel Platt Family Physicians Summer Externship was established in the name of two exemplary family physicians to help create a way to excite 1st and 2nd-year medical students in Delaware about family medicine. One fellowship is offered annually for a two-week externship during the Summer. The chosen medical student spends one week each shadowing family physicians in Delaware practices. At the conclusion of the program, the recipient is required to write an article about the experience for the DAFP Journal. A stipend of $1000 is then awarded to the recipient.
